J. F. A. Strong and Anna Hall Strong papers, 1885-1947.

The J. F. A. Strong and Anna Hall Strong Papers consist of correspondence, political materials, business ledgers, advertising cards, postcards, personal financial records, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia. Much of J. F. A. Strong's correspondence relates to his term as Territorial governor of Alaska (1913-1918), but the collection also includes a few business records from his earlier years as a newspaper publisher in Nome and some of his writings on Alaskan topics both during and after his term in office. Anna Hall Strong's correspondence is more personal in nature, beginning with letters from family members while she was a student at the Berliner Konservatorium in Berlin, Germany in 1888. Also found in the collection are memorabilia collected by Anna during her school years, during her husband's career, and during her travels after her husband's death in 1929. These include more than 500 colorful advertising cards dating from the late nineteenth century; programs and menus from various social functions held in Nome, Fairbanks, Juneau, Katalla, and Douglas, Alaska; and nearly 600 picture postcards featuring sights from around the world.
